Thanks for coming along on this ride. Distance and fundraising are done.
I’ve done what I set out to do…so this for 5 years, raise $10k.
I’ve ridden nearby 5k km, and raised nearly $14k .
And for now, this is the end of this particular journey. At this point, I’m probably going to give it a rest for a year or two anyway. There are other rides and causes…so we’ll see what next year brings.
For now, thank you for all the years you’ve show up for these kids.
It’s been a joy!
I just raised $2,500 to fight kids' cancer and achieved SUPERHERO LEVEL in the challenge! Thank you so much for your support.
Although the challenge is “officially” done, there is always some leeway. They Lee this thing as accessible as possible.
Indeed hoped to have the full thing completed by Sunday night, Aug 31… but, such did not happen. I was away at Music Camp for the weekend for its 60th anniversary…and stayed at an off-grid (no hydro, no cell/wi-fi service) cabin at a horse farm. Had the thought to take my bike, because it’s a great cycling area (Barrie/Orillia area) but at this time of the year, in that area, the weather nearly always shifts towards cooler and windier! So…left it at home meaning I had 62 km left to finish off the 500km.
Rick and I went out today. I set out an hour earlier, got onto a rail trial I haven’t been on this year and met him in a small town. He got there ahead of me by about 5 min.
24 km done.
Off to Rondeau and another trail ride. 15 km at 15 km/h on a simply gorgeous day.
So… 22 km left to go. And a pesky $136 left to raise. That I’ll leave to tomorrow.. tonight… a cat on the lap (Velcro) and a post ride egg, salmon sandwich along with some tasty Isagenix clear protein, micro used creatine and some IsaPro whey protein…and some good YouTube gardening and cycling videos.
One more day.
So far, Canada has raised $6.5 million for sick kids! Woohoo!!
The weather has been stunning. And I’ve gotten my cycling energy body back.
I’ve been super speedy!!! Even beat The Farmer down to breakfast on Sunday in a stunning show of leg power! I’m even surprising myself!
I was looking at my distance stats for the past few months.
In the past 5 days..>150 km
The first 10 days of August…150 km.
All of July..140km
The extreme heat has broken. And it’s now kinda cool in the am. Adding extra layers and double checking wind direction because it seems like it’s headwinds no matter which way I go.
But it is perfect cycling weather. Absolutely no complaints.
I’m down to 78 km left or hit 500km and just a couple hundred dollars left to raise to hit $2500. I’m feeing pretty satisfied with this.
On Thursday I head up towards Orillia for a few days. I’m staying in a cabin, totally off grid, on a horse farm for three nights. And on Saturday it’s National Music Camp’s 60th anniversary reunion, so I’ll head them for the day.
I’m looking forward to riding some new roads on Friday and Sunday, knocking out the final kms…and seeing some old friends at camp.
Pretty lucky to be doing this.
And every ride, I think about how the $6million + raised so far will help support the research at Sick Kids and help the kids under their care.
Thanks again for your donations.
This photo is with Susanne, a friend who is also on Team West Elgin Rides. She’s been doing this for three years with me. Funny though…we haven’t been able to get together to ride yet this month!
Onwards!!! Forwards!
With thanks
