• Riding to End Childhood Cancer
    11 Aug 2024

I was sick a lot as a child. I didn’t know then my immune system was not up to snuff.

I was lucky I didn’t have cancer but I know how being sick made school and having fun hard. Children dealing with cancer have it so much harder. It really isn’t fair and it robs them of so much of their childhood.

I am not your typical bike rider. I have full body Lymphedema which started in my head. I can’t balance on a bike so I ride my trike. It is electrified as I live up on a mountain side and I definitely couldn’t ride uphill without that boost.

Oh -I am 68 years old as well. Having an incurable disease isn’t fun. I have good days and really rotten ones.

Why did I sign up to ride a 100 kilometres this August? Because children are special. They deserve to have a childhood without radiation or chemo. To be able to go to school and go on play dates.

This is my third year of doing the challenge. I raised my goal to a $1000 this year and I hope I can make it.
