Biking in the Summer Rain
What a way to end one month of riding.
This ride in the rain took me back to my teenage years. A friend and I grabbed our bikes as a heavy summer downpour started. We chased each other down side streets in our neighbourhood. Sweating and soaked in rain we stopped at a corner store, bought 2 bottles of ice cold Coca Cola, sat down and quenched our thirst.
The difference… back then I had a beat up bike and youth at my side. This time around, I was riding in luxury and, well… let’s just leave it at that!!
This past Wednesday a colleague and I traded bikes; my titanium 2x10 speed road bike with his single speed commuter bike which I affectionately call Yellow Bee. I don’t know who was itching more to get out and let loose; me or Yellow Bee?
We kept each other company for 35Km. Yellow Bee wanted to continue. I had to be a party pooper and say ‘can I get a rain cheque please?’

I just raised $100 to fight kids' cancer and achieved DEFENDER LEVEL in the challenge! Thank you so much for your support.
Running is my main sport of choice. Biking is my cross-training and a close second choice. Once again I am training for several upcoming run races; a 15K, a 1/2 marathon (21.1K) and a fall marathon (42.2K).
Today is my easy / rest day. However, I am choosing to bike for an amazing cause -even with a 33c heat and 100% humidity- simply because kids that I wish to help don’t have a choice or an easy day. Regardless, they have chosen to persist and smile.
Please help making their days easier and share in their smiles.
