Meet Liam

9-year-old Liam is full of energy, laughter, and pure joy. He is currently battling leukemia for the 3rd time in his young life.

In 2019, at just 3 years old, Liam began to present some concerning symptoms. It started with paleness and extreme fatigue, and then he lost his appetite and started losing weight.

Feeling that something was very wrong, his dad took him to get a blood test. The very next day, Liam was rushed to the Hospital for Sick Children.

There, Liam was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

He began chemotherapy immediately with positive results. He finished the final round of chemotherapy for his initial treatment plan in September 2021 and had his chest port removed a few months later.

The following period was great for Liam. He was symptom-free and finally able to enjoy just being a kid.

Then, in December 2023, Liam started complaining about headaches. With a bad gut feeling, his dad took him to SickKids for a check-up and testing.

The following day, Liam was urgently called back to SickKids… he had relapsed.

On January 13th, 2024, Liam started chemotherapy treatment once again, which continued until January 2025. Liam successfully completed his treatment protocol and had a few short weeks of relief and celebration before another heart-breaking turn of events.

Testing found cancer cells once again in Liam’s cerebral nervous system, meaning that he had relapsed for the 2nd time.

More invasive action was required, and Liam was recommended for CAR T-cell therapy – a form of immunotherapy that uses the patient’s own T cells that are genetically engineered to fight their cancer. Liam received his new “fighter cells” on May 6, 2025, and a period of close supervision followed to ensure that they remained in his body.

This brave young man has been fighting this disease for the majority of his young life, and he has faced the challenges of this cancer journey with incredible maturity.

His parents are so proud of him, telling us, “He has a generosity and kindness that is outspoken. He has a sense of deep empathy for others and very a tuned to those who face challenges. He is an encourager and positive thinker.”

His extended family, friends, and school have continued to raise him up and show their unfailing support as Liam takes on his third battle. They have shaved their heads, hosted fundraisers, and raised over $100,000 in his honour.

Liam is an active kid who loves dancing, bending, and moving in general. He is a problem solver who loves a puzzle, a maths equation, an attempt to figure out a song on the piano (by ear) and generally coming up with solutions to life’s issues. He’s a proud older brother to his two younger siblings and takes care of them as best as he can.

Let’s kick cancer’s butt for the Legendary Liam this August!
