I'm Riding For
My late grandma
![My late grandma](https://stgccwebcaprd.blob.core.windows.net/gcc-web-ca/images/riders/riding-for/107526m.jpg)
The lady in the photo is my late grandma. As I embark on my 56th trip around the sun, I am reminded that my grandma, at my age, was ill beyond belief and would only live to see 54. It was devastating to lose my grandma when I was 15 and as I get to be her age now, I realize how her life was stolen at such a young age. She was a survivor of residential school, but the toll taken contributed to her early death. I wish she was here most days to see how much I've done in my life and how I've made this ride an annual thing to fight cancer. What keeps me riding some days? Well, fighting this disease on behalf of kids who fight it, but also knowing that the cancer that killed my grandma, is treatable today. In some ways, my ride is a part of my personal reconciliation plan that I live everyday. Thanks for your donation or forwarding this page on to others.
My Story
This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
This is the reason I ride.
I lost my grandma to cancer. She was 54 when she passed, and as I embark on my 55th birthday, I am reminded that I have outlived my grandma by two years. The form of cancer she had is now treatable thanks to research and the many countless dollars people have given to cancer research.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.
