I’m taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge because childhood cancer changed my life, and I’m one of the lucky ones.

As a survivor of childhood cancer, I grew up not knowing if I’d live long enough to experience adulthood, let alone parenthood. Today, I ride for my daughter, who I was blessed to have against all odds. I ride in memory of my dear friend Kimmy, who passed away just before we were to begin post-secondary with our friends. And I ride for every brave child I met as a camper at Camp Oochigeas, whose strength and spirit have stayed with me.

Every year, over 1,700 kids in Canada are diagnosed with cancer. It is the leading cause of death from disease in children. That’s not okay.

Kids should be busy growing, playing, dreaming, and living, not fighting for their lives.

So I’m raising funds for the SickKids Foundation to support groundbreaking research, life-saving treatments, and brighter futures.
