I'm Riding For

Matt O’Brien

Nobody loved kids more than Matt. He’s in the Ring of Honour of Camp Good Days, a summer camp for kids fighting cancer in western NY state, where he volunteered forever. He scheduled every vacation so he could work at the camp and basically play with the kids. When Chernobyl kids began to come, he studied Russian so he could converse with them. He almost always defaulted to fractured ‘Moose and Squirrel’ “Russian” with wild gesticulations. The kids loved him. So did I. He ended up dying from cancer way too soon. We grew up together as brothers. It’s a joy to now spend every August raising research funding for childhood cancer through the Sick Kids foundation from Toronto, in his name.

My Story

This August, I am once again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Thanks to my late cousin Matt for the inspiration. This was the cause of his life. He made a huge difference in individual kids’ lives. This is me trying to follow in the big footprints he left.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
