I'm Riding For
Rod Hawkins and Aaron Banfield
I’m riding in memory of my father, Rodney H Hawkins, & my friend, Aaron Banfield. I’m also riding for my friends the Abbott-Haines family, and for all families whose members are facing cancer or who will face it in the coming years.
My Story
I’m a disabled cyclist and entrepreneur. I haven’t been able to ride a bicycle the last 10 years, having previously been an avid cyclist. I’ll be doing this challenge from home on my NordicTrak, with dreams of getting back out on a bike soon.
I think it’s important to aim high and do what we can to support important causes. Cancer has touched my life the decade, with friends falling ill, my father dying, and a close friend’s death. I’m doing this challenge to help out how I can.
When I think of children facing cancer, it breaks my heart. Childhood should be a time of growth, discovery, learning, and playing.
Over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
If you can’t contribute financially, here are a few other ways you can help:
1. Share my page with your friends
2. Join the Great Cycling Challenge yourself. Even if you don’t ride far, or are using an indoor bike like me, you can make a difference.
3. Volunteer for your local cancer agencies or hospital.
4. Educate yourself on Ableism, to make society better for all people living with disabilities.
Thank you.
