Mike Nickele
My father is my best friend, was my best man at my wedding. One of the people I care most about it my life. On Thursday May 11th 2023 I was told he was confirmed to have Cancer. He was 78 and it is just one more thing he had to deal with. Since then, he has fought cancer and with the help of Radiation, is currently in remission. It takes 5 years free of cancer to be considered cured. My hope and prayer is that it is gone for good. He is a courageous and passionate man who deserves better in his life than to worry about cancer. I am going to ride 100 km for him, I ask that if you can, help me raise $500 or more for Kids with cancer. Join my team and ride for them and for your own loved ones. If I reach 100km, I will double it and keep going. The same is true for my financial goal. Help me do something to fight this.
My Story
Year 7 with Great Cycle to raise funds to help kids with cancer and show my respect to my father Mike who had been diagnosed with cancer himself, he has fought with radiation to become free from cancer. Cancer has been taking my family members for years - about time it ended.

Day 1 - The First Ride
1 Aug 2024So to start off I had planned to do a big hooray of a ride like 20km to start, but I didnt expect to be on the tail end of being sick... Tuesday (two days ago) I was almost hospitalized because of a fever... so... the plan has changed.
What dies this mean? Smaller bursts, when I can, until I feel better. Nothing wrong with that.
I'll do what I can, I have never met my goal for my rides, not during August anyways, not for this, something like sickness or injury always comes up. But I do want to do well, I feel like there are so many people I know who have died of cancer, family, friends and even acquaintances. So many I know have it and are fighting it.
So many things want us to fail, but there are people who fight for whats right. I want to be like them. I am inspired by others trying to do their best, to make others feel better. I want to be like them, so I will try.
