Alfred Groom

Honouring a friend’s death is truly about honouring their life. I am better for knowing Alfred. Alfred Groom was an extraordinary man. The achievements over his 84 year life span were clearly remarkable. A licensed pilot. An admirer of fast cars (Tesla). Always learning about the latest advancements. Commonwealth Games gold medal winning athlete in pole vaulting, a businessman constantly improving his various business interests, a civic minded individual and mentor to any and all requiring a boost. Alfred enjoyed life to the ultimate level. Alfred was my friend.

My Story

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Dean

Since beginning the GCC ride in the first year, Kathy and I have become grandparents on five separate occasions. Being a grandparent provides terrific motivation. Thank you again for your support, Maureen.”
  • Ian and Daphne Scott
“Pleased to support Dean Shaw's multiyear effort to raise funds in support of the kids cancer charities. Wonderful to know that Dean is using the Confederation Trail (in part) to cycle 1000 km in the month of August as he has done in recent years. I recall the enthusiasm that Dean provided for the creation of Rails-to-Trails PEI in the early days when it was still just a dream to create a multiuse trail. He was a founding member of the first board and set the record for garnering the most new memberships, leading the small group of keeners into being a credible province-wide organization. Thanks Dean for all you continue to do!”
