My Story
This August, for the sixth consecutive year, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
Also because, although I have never had cancer, I did spend a large portion of my childhood in hospitals. I was born with some deformities caused by being subjected to German Measles while I was developing in the womb. Not life threatening but there was concern that I may not ever walk, or at least walk normally, and also talk of amputating one of my arms. Fast forward to now, in my 60th year on this planet and I walk and cycle daily and am thankful to my parents who fought for me in those beginning years before I could fight for myself.
I can only imagine the pain and suffering that the families, as a whole, experience when a child is diagnosed with cancer. I have lost both my Mother and Mother-In-Law to this horrible disease and it is a whole different level to know that children are in similar situations.
This year I am committing to ride 1800km with a combination of both outdoor and indoor stationary rides tracked by GPS and a Garmin connected virtual cycling bluetooth enabled exercise bike for accuracy.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change lives.
Thank you.
