I have participated in the great cycle challenge since my sister was an ambassador for GCC in 2018 while she fought her cancer for a 3rd time. She fought cancer a total of 9 times over almost exactly 13 years before she passed on October 6th 2025.

She was diagnosed with high risk acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the age of 3. She relapsed when she was 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, and three times when she was 15. Her last relapse was on November 29th 2024, less than a week before her 16th birthday. The cancer returned while her maintenance treatment was paused for blood count recovery. Sarah had numerous challenges with her last relapse, and all attempts to get Sarah into remission were unsuccessful.

In her short life, she had many types of treatments. Sarah had countless rounds of chemotherapy, multiple types of immunotherapy, targeted radiation, total body radiation, craniospinal radiation, a bone marrow transplant, a stem cell transplant, 2 CD19 CAR-T treatments, and she was the very first kid in a CD22 CAR-T phase I clinical trial. She also suffered many complications from these treatments; many resulting in permanent damage.

Despite all of the challenges she faced, Sarah found happiness everywhere. She fought so bravely for so long. She was taken far too soon.

Every summer I hope to be able to ride as much as possible to try and help to save more kids.
