I'm Riding For
Malique Stickley Bishop
Just before Christmas 2023 we got the news. In Malique's words " Stage 4 Cancer wasn't exactly on my "Tummy Ache" Bingo card but here we are. The past 3-4 months have been incredibly rough as I've struggled to figure out why I'd lost 60+ pounds along with various other problems, but now we know." Malique is one of the most lovely 26 year old young men I have ever met. The son of my best friend, and sister in arms Adrienne, I have known Malique since he was a small boy and through my friendship with his mother, I have watched him grow into the man he is today. Malique is a Pokémon lover, he plays the games, collects the cards, has tattoos of them. With a heart of gold and a gentle voice he loves to help others. He would broadcast his gaming on twitch when he was well, and he has a lovely girlfriend “Nicole” who lives in Vancouver. Malique is right in the heart of his battle, With his treatment started, he has come to terms with the fact he will likely loose his glorious mane of hair, he is keeping his bright outlook on life and vows it will come come back bigger and brighter then ever!
My Story
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it. Out swinging on swings, getting grass stains and dirt in their hair.
I ride because I can. I ride for my nieces, who are survivors. I ride for family, who fought the fight, and are no longer with us. I ride for family who still fight, who fought and survived. I ride for dear friends who fought the fight, are still fighting, who survived and for those who gave all. I ride because it heals my broken heart. I ride because I can...for those who cannot.
I remember:
Kelvin Staples (10 March 1970 - 11 May 2018) Brother in Arms, Best Friend, Chosen Family.
Opa Gelok (12 April 1912 - 6 April 1992)
Aunt Carol (16 January 1944 - 23 February 2013)
Uncle Art (26 April 1941 - 13 January 2013)
Uncle Hank (9 September 1943 - 29 December 2015)
Uncle Pete (29 May 1947 - 9 March 2018)
Sgt (Ret'd) Ryan Martinsen (29 August 1974 - 18 July 2022 who lost his battle with PTSD, not to Cancer but I find much strength in his memory, his courage, and his service/sacrifice)
MWO (Ret’d) Dan Jessome (passed 7 May 2023)

Update on Malique - 20 Feb 24
1 Mar 2024I recieved an update from Malique's Mom Adrienne:
All is going well and he is progressing in the right direction. All organs have begun to shrink, which has definitely helped him. Last week was his best week yet, apparently it’s normal to have blood clots during chemo and he has a bunch that he will go on medication to get these under control but this is normal. They shaved his hair off a few weeks ago.
Adrienne said it was hardest thing she has have ever had to do. They had a good cry together but his sense of humour has come back, so this is a blessing. He will be scheduled for a PET scan after his 6th chemo (April) and we will know more then on future treatments (can do 2 more chemo or progress to radiation)
Adrienne shared this picture of him to show off his sense of humour with cherry earrings from his Girlfriend.
