My Story

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Cycling with intention is exhilarating & such fun!!

Riding west - riding east - riding north & riding south … Ottawa has so many fabulous bike paths. I feel so so lucky 🍀

Cycling with intention is exhilarating & such fun when shared with friends who, like me are keen to share the joy of the wind & the road.

This is my 3rd year to ride my bike 🚴 for the benefit of children challenged with cancer. As JDC as I far I am really close to hitting my cycling goal .. now it’s time to match enthusiasm with $$ raised.

Wednesday, August 14th is a very special day… this is the one day in August when every dollar donated will be matched by the same amount by the generosity of the Garron Family Foundation to the tune of $1.300,000!

After a health challenge - I am taking it easy

I knew something was off when I went swimming for the first time at “my” beloved cottage a month ago. I found my stamina & level of energy to swim 100+ strokes out & back was just not there. I felt I had to stop at 50 and never for the whole time over the three weeks did I swim out further. So different from the years before.

During my second week I began to feel a sharp pain under my left breast and around my left ribcage. It was not constant initially but got worse when lying down unless I propped myself up.

Turns out I was diagnosed with pericarditis & pleural effusion > inflammation around the heart and lungs. Spent 6 nights in the Heart Institute.. yes, it was serious.

I am home now and continuing with medication .. I feel better but still not quite back to my “old” best self! Hence I am lowering my expectation both for cycling distance and fundraising for GCC 2024.

It is wonderful, however, to have enough energy to get on my 🚴 .. please join me in supporting these young kids who suffer with cancer.

I now know how tough it is to be in hospital & I dearly hope our $$ support will help the kids with cancer get back to playing their chosen or favourite sport.
