My Story

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Two months ago I was asked to help out with the sound system at my church for a young boy’s funeral who had just succumbed to cancer. He was 10 and my son is 7 and it was very very hard to not think how blessed I am that my two kids are healthy and how devastating it was not just for his immediate family, but for his classmates, teachers and so many more people and their loss.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

  • GOAL!!! Completed 503km today

    Just completed my final goal and rode 503km. That’s almost the entire 550km drive from Vernon to Calgary. Crazy! So many donations too. Even got one on the ride today. So I had a celebratory ice cream cone!

  • A great weekend of riding

    It’s the end of the B.C. long weekend and I’m already 80km into this challenge. On Friday I received a donation from Josh and posted it to social media. It had a lot of attention and Saturday morning I had several hi’s from passing cars. On the way back from the beach I met a friendly fellow cyclist who later made a donation. Today I decided I’d make two loops of the lake and topped 30km on the ride. Not my longest ever (100km 12 years ago lol) but still very satisfying to take a big bite out of my challenge. Looking forward to what the week will bring. Remember to say hi if you see me.

    Wow! Today was my first donation while out on a ride. Josh found me next to Kins beach and pulled me over. He gave me a donation and told me about his experience with kids cancer. Thank you for your donation Josh and I’m praying for your friend who was recently diagnosed.

  • Rode the Okanagan Granfondo with my brother on Sunday

    It was an Okanagan heat wave that could have dampened our spirits but the people were friendly and the ride was well supported and we had a blast. Looking forward to more riding in the coming weeks as I attempt to smash last years nearly 500km or riding.
