I moved from Scotland to Canada in 2008 at the age of 28. Having been raised in a small village, I was brought up to be very community minded and still hold a strong belief that we should help people whenever we are able.

This belief is particularly strong when it comes to children facing adversity, and was brought home to me years ago when a childhood friend told me his daughter had been diagnosed with a potentially terminal cancerous brain tumour.

I am thankful that she has fought through her diagnosis and her last few scans have been clear, but there was a time when my friend was facing the very real possibility of losing her to this disease.

Seeing her come through this has been a huge inspiration, and her bravery continues to drive me forward in this ride to help others like her.
