My Story
I'm taking part in this challenge because over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada!
I rode 1,008 km for this challenge in 28 days back in 2019, but had to cut my ride short after suffering a traumatic brain injury in an unrelated incident. Luckily I passed my goal of 1,000 km the very day of the incident. My longest single day ride that year was 122.1 kms, breaking my 20 year old personal best of 121 kms! Sadly in 2020, after a cycling accident preparing for this ride, I suffered another concussion and a broken rib which put and end to my riding until 2024, when I took on the challenge again and managed to complete the challenge! You may recall that my Mum passed away at the end of August just as I was finishing up my ride, and I actually had my best ride of the year that day, even with my Mum along for the ride! ;-) What's that saying about great adversity? Well, I’ve had a new health issue this past year, and I haven’t had a chance to see how it may affect my ability to ride, but I'm going to try! It's already July, and I've been on my bike only once this year. I was hoping to get out in June, but the weather has not cooperated. July doesn't look much better, but it ain't over until it's over, right? I will post here the next chance I get to ride and with a little bit of luck, I'll be getting in some worthy rides for August!
I hope you'll support me, let's do this!!
