My Story
This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.

Just like that, it's done.
31 Aug 2024Last day of August and I have 45 km to go. Easy peasy. Yeah right when you wake up coughing. Then my hubby says, let's go for a ride. And pick blackberries. Km go by faster when there are two. The first stop, not great berries but the second spot, great. But all that hard work meant we were hungry. So brunch. Ok only 15km in but life is good. Then on a full stomach we try to get 30 km. If you see our route, we were really trying to get the km in. Almost forgot to get a picture! Stopped in front of my old school just at the end. I did it!! Thanks to you all for your support.

Kaboom
30 Aug 2024I had a great plan for this week and then Kaboom! Summer cold hit me. Wow, was I knocked off my feet! Just recovering now with only two days left this month to get to my goal. Today I got to work at a snails pace but at least I got on my bike. Tomorrow is definitely a cycling day to get my last 50 km in. Fingers crossed it goes well.

Last weekend in August
26 Aug 2024Ok, I am having a hard time writing this one. Since 2017, the last weekend in August has been the Ride to Conquer Cancer. This is the first year, I am not actively taking part. Sure during Covid the Ride changed but I still was active in some fashion. Not this year. It was a hard decision but I needed the rest. I still get all the updates on Facebook about this weekend. Even in the rain, it is a great event. Such great memories. Thanks to all my supporters. I feel so privileged and blessed. Thank you.

Riding in the rain ☔
20 Aug 2024Well it's raining. But that is the perfect time to act like a kid! Who cares if you ride into puddles. You are already wet so why not get muddy 😉. Fun facts- there are less bikes on the road, less cars on the side roads with lots of potholes and your bike doesn't mind getting wet! So go out there and be a kid again. Who knows, you might make people jealous when they see your face smiling in the rain.

Mid August
15 Aug 2024Can't believe I am half way through the month. Today will be a no ride day since we are heading out of town after work. Excited to be going to Arlington Skyfest. It has been a long time since I camped on an airfield. Growing up my family did a lot a fly-ins. We had a Cessna 172 since I was 2 so did lots of flying when I was younger. Not so much now but that is another story! Well anyway, we are heading down to the US to enjoy a small airshow but taking our van. Will be bringing my bike to get a little riding in over the weekend. Stay tuned for pictures in my next blog. This picture is from over 10 years ago but a favorite of mine.

Saturday tour
12 Aug 2024Ok, I am late posting this ride but thought you'd enjoy a little update from me. The other day, I went on a group ride up island. I am not much for group rides since I don't relax and stress that I am too slow. I live in the slow zone and I have learned to accept that. I can go all day in that zone so it works for me. Anyway back to the ride, I did stress out and was so not looking forward to it. But it turned out to be a great day. Sure we were out for 11 hours but didn't ride that long. Lots of stops with 🍷. Lunch was Merridale Cider, break at Cherry point winery, Enrico winery and lastly Cowichan Valley winery. Life is good in the slow lane!

First of August
2 Aug 2024Wow, August already! Time sure flies, during the summer. So now I am logging my rides which I am hoping are only mine since I share an account on one site with my husband and his rides somehow get connected to this. Ah technology. So much fun. Anyway I did ride today on my commuter bike. Love this bike. She is a work horse and love how versatile since I have ridden her on gravel, pavement, mud, sand and even tried her on mountain bike single track. Thought you might like a picture of the great speed machine! 😀

Happy
25 Jul 2024Well today I am listening to a song about being happy. So I thought what a great way to start this blog. What makes you happy? Me? Well guess what! Lots in life makes me happy 😁. Of course the freedom to ride is great. But I try to look around me and see how blessed I am. So I guess freedom and hope are my happy place. Today I challenge everyone to have a happy day!

Motivation
9 Jul 2024Motivation to ride on days you just want to be lazy. I have that issue most days. Really is a struggle but then I remember how good I feel after a ride. Sure the first 10-15 minutes suck but then things change. A " this is not all that bad" starts to happen. Then a "wow" I feel strong and then a smile on my face. I also remember that a few months ago I couldn't even walk! What a change in lifestyle now. Commuting to work is not so bad.

My challenge
28 Jun 2024Here I am again signed up for the great cycling challenge. I can't seem to say " no, not this year!" Why do I put myself out there? Well it is complicated. The emails from the kids in the campaign really get to me. I remember so clearly riding my bike as a kid. The feeling of the wind in your face. Nothing beats that. I still feel like a kid when I go downhill now. At 51 feeling like a little kid even for a few seconds is priceless. So I am back in this challenge. Would be lovely if you followed my blog thru this journey. Thanks
