My Story
Hi friends and family,
This August, I’m taking on the Great Cycle Challenge to help fight kids’ cancer by riding 300 km, hopefully more, throughout the month. This is more than double what I’ve been doing already, so I’ll need to find extra time to reach this goal.
As a parent, I feel fortunate to have healthy kids, and I want to help those who aren’t as lucky. Over 1,700 children are diagnosed each year, making it the biggest killer of kids from disease in Canada. I’m committed to putting in this effort to support SickKids Foundation’s work in finding a cure and developing treatments.
I’ll be trying to do 20 km around Mallaig on my lunch breaks, but you may also see me on the walking trail around St. Paul. Your donations will help motivate me to ride more and give these kids a brighter future. You can join my team, or send me a message if you just want to tag along for a ride or two!

13 Sep 2024I’m a little late updating my blog, but the 2024 Great Cycle Challenge wrapped up a couple of weeks ago! I’m excited to share that I crushed my original goals—riding 626 kilometers (way over my 300 km goal) and raising $1,970 (well beyond the $500 target) for the SickKids Foundation.
I would’ve loved to add a few more kilometers, but COVID knocked me out for the last couple of days. Still, it was an awesome experience, and I’m already looking forward to 2025!
Thanks again for your amazing support—keep me in mind for next August when I’m back in the saddle!

Over 500km and Still Riding: My Great Cycle Challenge Update
22 Aug 2024Yesterday’s ride pushed me over 500km in the 2024 Great Cycle Challenge. It’s been a ride, especially after turning 40 years old this spring—my back and knees have given me a few reminders, though the pain’s minor.
I’ve covered a mix of paved trails, streets, highways, country roads, and both smooth and rough sections of the Iron Horse Trail. Along the way, I’ve learned how to navigate through cattle herds, react to spooked deer, and handled everything from solo rides to family rides, flat tires, rain, sunshine, wind, and calm.
But honestly, these little aches and challenges are nothing compared to what the families at SickKids face every day. After hitting my initial 300km goal, some generous donors offered to pay per kilometer and are pushing me to keep riding and raising money. So, I’m keeping the wheels turning.
Thanks to everyone who’s donated so far—your support is making a real difference. And for those considering it, there’s still time to jump in or top up. Every kilometer and every dime counts.
