I'm Riding For

Ray Jamieson and others

Ray Jamieson and others

I’m actually riding in honour of a few family and friends this year, but am unsure if they want their names published on this page. Below is a photo of my father and I when I was quite young. My father died due to lung cancer at age 59.

My Story

28 May 2024

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This is my sixth year participating!

Why? Because right now, many Canadian children are diagnosed with some form of cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through this challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me in this cause by making a donation (any amount is appreciated) to Sick Kids Foundation to help give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you for your support.

Mark

  • Ride 5 - Amherst Island South Shore (100 km Completed!)
    20 Aug 2024

It was cool and windy today on Amherst Island and the wind turbines were spinning and generating electricity as a result. The ride was difficult because of the wind but I persevered and completed my 100 km goal today!

Thanks very much again to my dear friends and family who donated this year! Your generous donations were super motivating for me and we can all feel proud that we are aiding the research and development of treatments for childhood cancer.

    14 Aug 2024

This morning was warm with cloudless skies on Amherst Island where I did my third ride today (21.5 km). If you’ve never been over to Amherst Island, I highly recommend a visit. Its a great place to come cycling, birdwatching, or go for a swim at one of its two uncrowded sand beaches during the summer months.

I’m fortunate that this is my ancestral home so I have cousins I can visit too. Its accessible by ferry and very pretty year round.

Thanks very much to those who donated to my cycle ride on “Kick Cancer’s Butt” day (Today) in which all donations that were made were doubled!

Im very pleased that I’ve exceeded my fundraising goal this year due to the generosity of my dear friends and family! Thank you again!

    12 Aug 2024

FINALLY! I was able to get in my first 20km ride today on Amherst Island. Weather has been sucky, and I injured my back on the weekend, but I’m determined to reach my goal this month! Was calm most of the morning, then it showered and got windy near the end of my ride. Thank you to all my friends who have sponsored me so far. It really motivates me on this cause!

You’re right, hope is critical, and with more breakthroughs in research, hope will become a reality in having better treatments for children dealing with cancer. Its a very small way to make a difference for someone I don’t know or will never meet, but I have faith in the enduring human spirit!”
