My Story
This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada. For me, this year it became personal.
My neighbor has a 12 yo with Hodgkins Lymphoma. I never knew how hard it was on the whole family- Mom, Dad and the other healthy kids. For months now they have been driving back and forth to Children's Hospital. Most of the time she has to stay in- overnight sometimes, but mostly for days on end. Her Mom sleeps in the chair in her room. Dad is back on the farm with the other 3 kids, all who try to have a "sorta" normal life. She gets out on day passes and sometimes the whole family can go see a movie. But honestly, nothing is normal for any of them right now. Right now all of us in the community are rooting for the family. For her to get better.
I started riding 2 years ago because I liked to ride my bike and I wanted to raise ,money for Kid's Cancer. I like that this money is spent in Canada (although there is an international component) on research and other necessary things to help the kids beat cancer. I'd encourage you to read up on this Challenge and SickKids Foundation. The goals I set this year seem super high. But every time my legs hurt, or I don't want to get on that bike I just remember a young neighbor that is to sick to ride her bike. Please, help me reach my goal of $2500. If even one penny of this can help make a kid better its more than worth it . Every day I ride I just pray that the farm family up the road gets their daughter/sister back home so they can have a normal life of 4-H, hockey and living together.
Thank You for your support.
