Sandy (Robert, Bob) Phillips

Happy to be on a team with Sandy's brother, Peter, and friends. Those that knew Sandy miss watching and doing outrageous things with him but everytime I think of those times, it brings a smile to my face. Thank you, my friend, for all you were for me.

My Story

27 Aug 2024

I am a team member of a group in memory of Sandy Phillips. He died at age 58 from complications due to throat cancer. Among other things, he liked to ride his bicycle.

In high school, we bicycled from Regina to Victoria one summer. One highlight was picking cherries in the Okanagan for 6 cents per pound. We ate a lot of the profits. We made $1 per hour. We weren't paid until all the cherries were picked from the top of the tree. By the end of the day, we were shaking the tree hoping the cherries would disappear.

The next summer, we bicycled from Regina to St. John's, NL with fellow team member Bob Loney and Tom Davis. One highlight was camping on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The RCMP were kind enough to provide a wake up call at 6am to send us on our way before everyone knew we were there.

Thank you, Sandy, for the many adventures and memories. They wouldn't have been the same without you. We all think of you as we bicycle down the road to the next adventure.

“Thank you, daughter. Children will benefit from your gift. Not surprising as I know the great care you give your own children.”

“Rick, 50 years ago we met for the first time, cycling across the country to NL with Sandy and Tom. At the end of the trip we were friends for life. It’s been a blast cycling for GCC together with you in Sandy’s memory. I hope we are able to get together in person in the not too distant future. Keep on rolling! Bob”
